ENGINEERING
MEP design and training

We design the systems that make a building work.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing, from load calculation through to handover. And we train the engineers who do it.

Air goes where the pressure tells it to. Deciding where that is, is the work.

Why some buildings cost so much to keep cool.

An air conditioning system too big for the building will switch on and off all day, cool without drying the air, and cost more to run every month. The right size is worked out before anything is bought.

The programme

HVAC Design.

Design. Calculate. Select. Deliver.

Taught against live project conditions by engineers who answer for these systems on site. Scheduling is flexible, so ask us about the next intake.

Full curriculum
  1. 01

    Cooling load calculation

Work out what a building actually needs before anything gets selected. Sensible and latent loads, occupancy assumptions and the judgement calls that decide whether a system is right sized or expensively wrong.

    Carrier HAP

  2. 02

    Duct design and layout

Sizing, routing and pressure drop, then laying it out against a real floor plan with real obstructions. Where the theory meets roof hips, fire walls and a ceiling void somebody else has already claimed.

  3. 03

    Equipment selection

Choosing plant against a calculated load rather than a rule of thumb. Schedules, selection criteria, and understanding the cost consequences of each decision over the life of the building.

  4. 04

    Chilled water systems

Central plant, pipe sizing, pumps and distribution. When a chilled water system is the right answer, when it is not, and how to design one that can actually be commissioned.

  5. 05

    Air handling units

AHU design and specification, coil selection and the air side of the system, treated as an engineering problem rather than a catalogue exercise.

  6. 06

    Rooftop and packaged systems

Rooftop units, DX and packaged plant. Structural and access constraints, and the trade-offs that make a rooftop the right or wrong call for a given building.
